Bigger, More Balanced Breasts — With Surgery
Breast augmentation — also called augmentation mammoplasty — is a surgery that makes the breasts larger, fuller or more even by placing implants (small, soft pouches filled with silicone gel or salt water) inside the breast.
It is one of the most popular surgeries in the world. Women choose it for many reasons — breasts that feel too small, breasts that changed shape after pregnancy or breastfeeding, or simply wanting to feel more confident in their own body.
At Elore Aesthetics, Islamabad, breast augmentation is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons in a safe, accredited surgical setting. Every plan is personalised — your size, your shape, your choice.
Which Implant Is Right for You?
There is no one-size-fits-all implant. The right choice depends on your body, how much natural breast tissue you have, and the look you want. Your surgeon explains every option at consultation.
Silicone Gel Implants
Most PopularThe most commonly chosen implant worldwide. Filled with a soft silicone gel that feels very similar to natural breast tissue. Modern silicone implants are safe, long-lasting, and give a natural look and feel. They come in different sizes (measured in cc — cubic centimetres) and shapes to match your body.
Most patients — natural feel, wide size range, lower rippling risk
Cohesive Gel ("Gummy Bear") Implants
Firm & ShapedA type of silicone implant filled with a firmer, thicker gel that keeps its shape even if the outer shell is cut. Called "gummy bear" because the gel behaves like the sweet — it does not run. Teardrop-shaped versions give a very natural slope — more fullness at the bottom, less at the top.
Patients wanting a shaped, tear-drop profile with long-term firmness
Saline Implants
Salt Water FilledFilled with sterile salt water (saline) after being placed in the body. If the implant leaks, the salt water is safely absorbed — the body breaks it down harmlessly. Saline implants feel slightly firmer than silicone and can show more rippling in thin patients, but allow a smaller incision.
Patients who prefer a non-silicone option or require smaller incisions
Augmentation + Breast Lift
Combined ProcedureWhen breasts are both small and droopy (a condition called ptosis), implants alone do not fix the droop — the skin is too loose. An augmentation-mastopexy combines an implant with a breast lift in one surgery. The lift removes extra skin and raises the nipple-areola complex to a better position while the implant adds volume.
Breast drooping (ptosis), post-pregnancy shape loss, asymmetry with laxity
Implant Placement — Above or Below the Muscle
Under the Muscle (Submuscular)
Most natural result
The implant sits beneath the pectoralis major — the large chest muscle. This gives more coverage over the implant, making it look and feel more like natural tissue. It also reduces the risk of rippling (visible implant edges) and makes mammogram readings easier. The recovery is slightly more uncomfortable because the muscle is stretched.
Slim patients, little natural breast tissue, best natural result
Over the Muscle (Subglandular)
Quicker recovery
The implant sits on top of the pectoralis major muscle, under the breast tissue. Recovery is easier because the muscle is not disturbed. Better for patients who already have some breast tissue to cover the implant. Not ideal for very slim patients as the implant edge may be visible.
Patients with existing breast tissue, athletes, faster recovery preference
Dual Plane
Best of both
A combination technique — the upper part of the implant sits under the muscle for natural coverage at the top, while the lower part sits behind the breast tissue. This gives a natural upper slope with better fullness in the lower breast. The most versatile placement for most body types.
Most patients — combines benefits of both above and below muscle placement
Incision Locations
Inframammary Fold (IMF)
Most CommonA small cut made in the natural fold under the breast — where the breast meets the chest wall. The scar is completely hidden when wearing a bra or swimwear. Gives the surgeon the best access and control. This is the most widely used approach worldwide.
Periareolar
Around the NippleA cut made along the lower edge of the areola (the darker circle around the nipple). The scar blends into the natural colour change between the areola and skin, making it hard to see. Slightly more risk of affecting nipple sensation or breastfeeding compared to the fold incision.
Transaxillary
Through the ArmpitThe implant is inserted through a small cut inside the armpit — no scar on the breast at all. The implant is guided into position using a camera (endoscope). Less common but chosen by patients who want zero visible scar on the breast.
Your Surgery Journey
Consultation & Planning
Your surgeon measures your chest width, breast tissue volume and skin elasticity. You discuss the size (cc), shape (round or teardrop), placement (above or below muscle) and incision type together. 3D imaging may be used to show you how different sizes will look on your body before any decision is made.
General Anaesthesia
Breast augmentation is always performed under general anaesthesia — you are completely asleep and feel nothing during the procedure. An anaesthesiologist monitors you throughout. The surgery takes 1–2 hours. You wake up with dressings in place and a supportive surgical bra.
Implant Placement
The surgeon makes a small incision (cut) at the chosen site — under the breast, around the nipple or in the armpit. A pocket is created either above or below the pectoralis major chest muscle. The implant is placed into the pocket, positioned carefully for symmetry, and the incision is closed with fine sutures.
Recovery & Follow-up
You go home the same day or after one night. A surgical bra is worn for 6 weeks. Drains (small tubes) are rarely needed. Follow-up appointments at 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months. Implants take 3–6 months to fully settle into their final position and softness.
Week by Week Recovery
Recovery is easier than most people expect. The first few days are the most uncomfortable. By week 2–3 most patients are back to normal daily life. The implants gradually settle over 3–6 months into their final, natural-looking position.
Soreness, tightness and swelling in the chest — normal and expected. Pain is well-managed with prescribed medication. Rest at home. Sleeping on your back is required.
First follow-up visit. Dressings checked. Most patients can shower from day 3–4. Soreness improving. Still avoid lifting anything heavy or raising your arms above your head.
Significant reduction in soreness. Most patients return to light desk work. Driving can resume once you can perform an emergency stop comfortably — usually week 2.
Surgical bra continues. Implants begin to soften and drop into a more natural position — a process called "dropping and fluffing." Upper breast fullness reduces and lower fullness improves.
Implants mostly settled. Swelling gone. Shape looks close to final result. Light exercise resumed from week 4–6, full exercise including chest workouts from month 3.
Final result. Implants fully settled, soft and natural-looking. Scars fading — they continue to lighten for 12–18 months. Follow-up to assess long-term outcome.
Good Candidates & Things to Consider
Ideal Candidates
- Age 18 or older — breast development must be complete
- Unhappy with breast size, shape or symmetry
- Breast volume lost after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss
- Breasts that feel too small relative to your body proportions
- One breast noticeably different in size from the other (asymmetry)
- In good general health with no serious uncontrolled medical conditions
- Non-smoker or willing to stop smoking 4–6 weeks before and after
- Realistic expectations — improvement in shape and confidence, not perfection
Better to Wait If
- Currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- Planning to have children soon — pregnancy changes breast shape post-implant
- Active breast infection or undiagnosed breast lump
- Severe breast drooping (ptosis) without combining a breast lift
- Unrealistic size expectations — very large implants risk long-term complications
- Smoking — significantly increases infection and healing risks
Your surgeon will give you an honest assessment at consultation — including whether a breast lift alongside implants would give you a better result.
