What Is Hymenoplasty?

A Private Restoration With Full Respect

Hymenoplasty — also called hymen repair surgery, hymenorrhaphy, or hymen reconstruction — is a short, outpatient gynaecological procedure that restores the hymen (a thin membrane at the opening of the vaginal canal called the introitus). The torn edges are reconnected using ultra-fine dissolvable sutures (Vicryl) to recreate the original hymenal membrane.

There are many reasons women in Islamabad and Pakistan choose hymenoplasty — cultural and religious importance before marriage, restoration after non-sexual trauma (sports injuries, accidents, tampon use), recovery after sexual violence, or simply a personal choice. All reasons are valid. All conversations are private. No judgement is ever made.

At Elore Aesthetics, hymenoplasty is performed by board-certified gynaecologists in our private surgical facility in Islamabad. A female doctor is available on request for the consultation, procedure and follow-up. Your records are kept under strict medical confidentiality — never shared with anyone, ever.

Types of Hymenoplasty

Which Procedure Is Right for You?

Different types of hymenoplasty suit different situations. Your doctor will recommend the right one for you during the private consultation.

Short-Term Hymenoplasty

Most Common

Also called the "simple repair" — the torn edges of the hymen are gently brought back together using ultra-fine dissolvable sutures (Vicryl). The repair is designed to last for a few weeks and rupture naturally during the next intercourse, with bleeding. The procedure takes around 30–45 minutes under local anaesthesia.

Ideal For

Patients who need restoration shortly before marriage — discreet, fast, fully outpatient

Long-Term Hymenoplasty

Lasting Restoration

A more detailed reconstruction where the hymenal remnants are carefully reconstructed and the vaginal opening (introitus) is also slightly tightened. The result is permanent — the new hymen behaves anatomically like the original. Best for patients who want long-term restoration without time pressure.

Ideal For

Patients who want a permanent, anatomically natural result not tied to a fixed timeline

Alloplant Hymenoplasty

Advanced Option

A technique used when very little hymenal tissue is left to work with. A small piece of biological material is used to reconstruct the hymen membrane, with a tiny capsule of artificial blood placed inside. On the next intercourse, the membrane ruptures and bleeds — replicating the natural first-time experience.

Ideal For

Patients with very little remaining hymenal tissue, advanced reconstruction needed

Combined Vaginal Tightening

Combined Procedure

Hymenoplasty can be combined with vaginoplasty (vaginal tightening) for patients who want both restoration of the hymen and tightening of the vaginal canal. Both procedures are performed in the same surgical session under the same anaesthesia — one recovery period.

Ideal For

Patients seeking both hymen repair and vaginal canal tightening together

Common Reasons

Why Women Choose Hymenoplasty

Every reason is valid. Every consultation is judgement-free. Every record stays private.

Cultural & Religious Reasons

In many South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures, an intact hymen on the wedding night holds deep cultural and religious importance. Hymenoplasty offers a private, medical solution that respects these values without judgement.

Trauma or Medical History

The hymen can be torn from many causes that have nothing to do with sexual activity — sports, accidents, tampon use, gynaecological exams, or past medical procedures. Hymenoplasty restores what was lost to trauma.

Past Relationships — A Personal Choice

Some women choose hymenoplasty after past relationships as a personal choice for a fresh start. Whatever the reason, your decision and history remain 100% private — protected by full doctor-patient confidentiality.

Survivors of Sexual Violence

For survivors of sexual assault or abuse, hymenoplasty can be part of physical and emotional healing — a way to reclaim bodily autonomy. Performed with full sensitivity, dignity and confidentiality.

From Consultation to Recovery

Your Private Journey

01

Private Consultation

Your consultation is 100% confidential. A female doctor (available on request) examines the hymen, listens to your concerns, and recommends the most suitable type of hymenoplasty for your situation. No judgement, no pressure, no questions about your history. All records are kept strictly private.

02

Anaesthesia & Preparation

Hymenoplasty is usually performed under local anaesthesia with mild sedation — you stay awake but feel nothing. For longer procedures, light general anaesthesia may be used. The entire session is done in a private surgical room. No hospital stay needed.

03

The Repair

The torn edges of the hymen are carefully identified and gently brought together using ultra-fine dissolvable sutures (Vicryl). The technique used depends on which type of hymenoplasty you chose. The procedure takes 30–60 minutes. There are no external scars — everything is done internally.

04

Discharge & Discreet Recovery

You go home the same day, usually within 1–2 hours of the procedure. There is no visible sign that any procedure was done. You can resume normal activities — walking, light work — within 24–48 hours. The dissolvable stitches disappear on their own within 3–4 weeks.

Recovery Guide

Week by Week Recovery

Hymenoplasty recovery is gentle and discreet. You can return to school, college or work within 2–3 days. Full healing takes about 4–6 weeks. Nobody can tell from the outside that anything was done.

No tampons or intercourse for 4–6 weeks
No swimming pools or gym for 4 weeks
Stitches dissolve on their own — no removal
Day 1–2

Mild swelling and discomfort — easily managed with prescribed pain relief. Rest at home. Can walk around comfortably. No visible signs from the outside.

Day 3–7

Discomfort almost gone. Most people return to desk work or studies. Avoid heavy lifting, exercise, cycling and horse riding. Daily warm sitz baths recommended.

Week 2

Healing well. Mild spotting may occur — this is normal. Continue avoiding tampons, intercourse, swimming pools and gym. Stitches start dissolving on their own.

Week 3–4

Stitches fully dissolved. Light exercise can resume. Still no penetrative intercourse, no tampons, no swimming pools. Healing tissue still maturing internally.

Week 6

Full healing complete. All restrictions lifted. The hymen is now restored and ready. For short-term hymenoplasty, the repair will rupture naturally with bleeding on next intercourse.

Long-Term

For long-term and alloplant techniques, the restoration is permanent and anatomically natural. For short-term, the procedure has done its job once natural rupture occurs.

Patient Selection

Good Candidates & Who Should Wait

Ideal Candidates

  • You are 18+ years of age (legal requirement in Pakistan)
  • You are in good general health with no active infections
  • You are not currently menstruating (procedure scheduled around your cycle)
  • You are not pregnant
  • You understand and accept the procedure is for restoration, not virginity testing
  • You can rest and avoid certain activities for 4–6 weeks

Better to Wait If

  • Active vaginal infection or untreated STI — must be treated first
  • Currently menstruating (procedure scheduled for after period)
  • Pregnancy
  • Bleeding disorders or use of blood thinners (must stop before surgery)
  • Any pressure or coercion from family — this must be your free personal choice

This must always be your free, personal choice. No reputable doctor will ever perform hymenoplasty under family pressure or coercion.
